Pump Settings Calculator

Medtronic • Tandem • Omnipod • Others • Pediatric + Concentrated Insulin

How to Use This Tool

This calculator helps you quickly get starting settings for your insulin pump — especially useful when resetting after a new phone, broken PDM, or switching pumps.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Enter your basic info
Fill in your weight, age (if under 15), and current Total Daily Dose (TDD) if you know it. If you don’t know your TDD, leave it blank — the calculator will estimate it from your weight.
  2. Choose your pump brand
Select Medtronic, Tandem, Omnipod, or Other. Each has slightly different default settings.
  3. Tell us your situation
    • Are you coming from injections (MDI)? Choose that option so it reduces your TDD by 25% (standard practice).
    • Using U-200 or U-500 insulin? Select it (adults only).
  4. Click “Calculate Settings”
Your recommended basal rate, I:C ratio, correction factor, DIA, target BG, and max bolus will appear.
  5. Review the math
Click “Show Calculations” to see exactly how each number was figured out. This helps you understand and discuss with your care team.

Important Tips

  • These are starting estimates only. Always verify with your doctor or diabetes educator.
  • For pediatric patients (under 15), the calculator uses safer, more conservative numbers.
  • After you put the settings in your pump, monitor your blood sugar closely and adjust as needed.
  • Save or print your results using the Copy button.
